13 Citizen Leaders Become New CITIZENS’ ACADEMY Grads

WENTWORTH, NC (Nov. 21, 2018) – Citizen leaders graduated from Rockingham County Government's eighth Citizens' Academy Class at the Nov. 19th Board meeting in Wentworth.  A total of 13 citizen leaders received framed certificates and handshakes of approval from Rockingham County Commissioners.

Graduates included:  Valencia Ann Abbott of Reidsville, Nichole L. Boswell of Reidsville, Kelia E. Fernandez of Eden, Melissa G. Galloway of Reidsville, Barbara R. Garland of Eden, Angel Goldstone of Greensboro, Karen E. Jenkins of Reidsville, Kenneth L. Peterkin of Reidsville, Dianne H. Pickard of Eden, Clyde Robertson of Eden, Marcus Slade of Eden, Wanda Taylor of Stoneville, and Facio Visaya of Reidsville.

Citizens' Academy is a free, comprehensive, ten-week program to educate, inform and empower graduates to better understand how Rockingham County Government operates.  Graduates will hopefully look forward to becoming even more involved in local community efforts, volunteer projects, and on County Boards and Committees.

Former Citizens' Academy graduates, Leanna Lawson, served as chair of the Citizens' Academy Steering Committee, and Barbara Boudreaux, was vice-chair.  Other Committee members were:  Fleecie Ellington, Juanita Nunley, and Robert L. Pankey.

The Citizens' Academy started in Rockingham County Government in Sept./2012 and has produced dozens of actively involved civic leaders who have run for public office and are presently serving on various Rockingham County Boards and Committees.
