Detention Services

 

The detention services division has two locations to house inmates; the main facility is located at the Sheriff’s Office in the Law & Order Building, and the jail annex is located at the intersection of NC 65 and NC 87 in Wentworth.  The main jail was built in 1977 and can hold up to 90 inmates.  The jail annex was acquired from the state of North Carolina and is designed to house up to 50 inmates.  The detention services division employees a staff of over 50 fulltime and part-time officers at both facilities operate 24 hours a day.  Captain Marcus Marshall is the officer in charge of detention services and can be reached at 336-634-3236.

 

You may leave money for inmates at the records division of the Sheriff’s Office Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  All money must be in the form of a money order and made out to the inmate.  Inmates receive money on Mondays and Thursdays.

 

Visitation hours are as follows: 

A – F                Saturday 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

G – L                Saturday 2:00 PM  to   4:00 PM

 

M – R               Sunday 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

S – Z                 Sunday 2:00 PM  to 4:00 PM

Courts Division

 

The Bailiff’s duty is to provide security for judges, witnesses, and prisoners in the county courtrooms.  Bailiffs are responsible for opening and closing the courts, keeping order within courtrooms, and carrying out orders of the court as directed by the presiding judge.  They also transport prisoners to and from court.  All court sessions (District, Superior, Small Claims, and Administrative courts convene Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM.  Special hearings are scheduled by judges or other court officials.  Sgt.
