Capital Construction
Projects Update
September 3, 2010
Judicial Center
-
Sheriff’s Department has occupied the Law Enforcement Center (LEC).
-
Jail
occupancy is delayed until smoke evacuation system is installed.
-
Working
with Sheriff to allow Jail Annex inmates to be moved in to new
facility so as not to delay contractor from tearing down old
annex.
-
Progress
remains on schedule for the Courthouse to be completed by December
2010. Occupancy is planned for February 2011.
-
Currently, the construction contract is 96% complete.
-
Interior
finishing on the Courthouse first floor is underway.
-
Remaining Courthouse furniture being planned for purchase.
Judicial Center
Road Improvements
-
New road
and NC 65/87 intersection upgrades will improve access, safety and
mobility to the east side of the Judicial Center campus.
-
The
County, Town of Wentworth and NCDOT are partnering to complete
this project in Spring 2011.
-
The
County’s portion of the total project costs is estimated at
$265,000 (cost is budgeted).
-
The
design phase is nearing completion and NCDOT will review and
approve construction plans and bid project in October 2010. NCDOT
will bid and build roadway.
Animal Shelter
-
The site
has been cleared and erosion controls installed.
-
The
building pad has been graded to proper elevation.
-
Footings
and foundation walls are complete.
-
Underground plumbing and electrical are complete.
-
Contractor preparing to poor floor slab.
-
Project
is 21 days behind due to wet weather. Contractor has indicated
that he can make up time so project will be on schedule to be
completed February 2011.
-
City of
Eden has given County notice that they do not plan on
participating in the operation of the shelter. Reidsville is on
board. We have budgeted $32,500 and $38,500 respectively for Eden
and Reidsville’s participation.
Western EMS
Base
-
Site
development is complete.
-
The
project is ready to advance into design upon selection of an
Architect.
-
The
current project budget is $800,000.
School Roof
Replacements
-
2010
school roof replacement program successfully completed for the Bus
Garage, Moss Street Elementary, South End Elementary, McMichael
High and Rockingham County High.
Rockingham
County High School Natatorium
Madison-Mayodan
Library
-
LS3P
Architects has been contracted to design a sign to be placed at
the site.
-
A
contract will be bid to clear the existing brush and shrubs off
the site.
-
Sufficient funds donated to complete design and construction
documents.
-
Design
meetings are scheduled to begin mid-September.
RCC Joint
Energy Conservation Grant
-
RCC has
invited the County to partner on grant proposal to secure Stimulus
funding for electrical upgrades that will reduce energy
consumption.
-
The
County will be proposing a $10,000 project to convert Governmental
Center light fixtures to LED lights.
-
Grant
has been submitted to State Energy Office.
Sunflower Road
8 Inch Sewer Line
-
The
$420,000 construction contract is 50% complete and on schedule to
be completed November 2010.
-
All
force mains completed and gravity fed mains and pump station
currently under construction.
-
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to Rockingham
County pays 100% for construction costs.
-
Rockingham County will gain 35 new sewer customers from this
project.
NC Highway
65/87 12 Inch Water Line
-
Rockingham
County is partnering with Dan River Water, Inc. and Town of
Wentworth to upgrade existing 8 inch water line to 12 inch from
the elevated water tank west to the Mental Health/Governmental
Center entrance.
-
The water line
upgrade will improve fire flow protection to the new Judicial
Center and improve water supply to existing customers and
facilities.
-
The County’s
portion of the total project costs is estimated at $256,000.
County will use remaining US 220 water and sewer project funds to
cover most of this expense. Balance will be covered with Judicial
Center funds.
-
The project’s
final design is 80% complete and State approvals are scheduled for
October 2010.
-
Project bid in
November 2010 with a projected completion date of Summer 2011.
