9-1-1 Center

The Rockingham County 9-1-1 Center provides EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) service. EMD is a system by which information is gathered from the caller based on structured questions so the appropriate responders can be dispatched and any pre-arrival instruction can be provided. The EMD Telecommunicator will question the caller as to the nature of the problem and, based on the answers, will provide instructions so the caller can provide help to the patient until the Fire Department and/or EMS arrives.

Our EMD Telecommunicators are certified by the State of North Carolina and nationally by The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch.

In addition to EMS, the Telecommunicator will dispatch one of the 13 county volunteer fire departments, which respond to medical calls, to assist with patient care prior to and after the arrival of the ambulance. The volunteer fire departments can provide Medical Responder and EMT level care. The City of Reidsville dispatches its' own emergency calls and will dispatch Reidsville Fire to any significant medical call or motor vehicle accident and then transfer the call to the 9-1-1 Center for EMS to be dispatched.

The City of Eden also dispatches its' own emergency calls, however, Eden Fire, at this time, will only be dispatched to assist with motor vehicles accidents. In addition, Reidsville Rescue, Madison Rescue and Eden Rescue may be dispatched to assist depending on the location of the call.
