The Planning Division

Functions of this division include:

  • Issuing zoning compliance for new construction;
  • Reviewing plats for new subdivision and development in the County;
  • Studying and recommending long and short range planning needs for the County including zoning, 
    transportation, economic development, infrastructure, land use, and environmental priorities.

The mechanism for implementing such recommendations and for insuring the County has controlled and balanced 
growth is the development of planning ordinances and regulations.

The Rockingham County Planning Board, composed of one citizen from each of the County's eleven townships, 
directs the planning staff in identifying needs and formulating policies for governing growth in Rockingham 
County for the ultimate purpose of promoting the public health, safety and general welfare of its citizens.
